Avnet Integrated presents the MSC C6C-WLU COM Express™ Type 6 module family, which is based on the 8th generation of quad-core Intel® Core™ U processors (codenamed “Whiskey Lake“). For the first time, the powerful processor technology is available in the COM Express™ Compact form factor of 95 x 95mm, which can be easily integrated into applications where space is a premium. Early access to the new 8th Generation U processor series enables developers to accelerate market introduction of their innovative end products.
The scalable MSC C6C-WLU COM Express™ module family offers considerable increased performance in comparison to predecessor products based on the 7th generation of dual-core Intel® Core™ processor. The performance of multi-threading applications can be increased by up to 40%; however, the typical Thermal Design Power (TDP) of the CPU is only 15W and can be reduced to about 10W. The optimized utilization of the available performance is possible via clock enhancement at 25W TDP.
This MSC C6C-WLU module family, based on Intel’s embedded series processors, is best-suited for industrial applications. Compared to the shorter product lifecycle of consumer products, Avnet Integrated ensures the availability of these modules fifteen years from the date of product introduction. The compact COM Express™ modules are designed and manufactured in-house at Avnet Integrated’s Global Technology Campus in Stutensee, Germany and are available worldwide.
The new MSC C6C-WLU modules have soldered memory and are best suited for harsh industrial environments and portable applications. Typical applications are: real-time systems for automation systems, modern industrial PCs, complex HMI systems, innovative digital signage solutions and gaming systems. For wireless applications like IoT, the boards can be equipped optionally with a WiFi module for up to 2×2 IEEE 802.11ac Wireless networking and Bluetooth 5.
The MSC C6C-WLU COM Express™ Type 6 module family is equipped with 8th generation quad-core Intel® Core™ U processor series (codenamed “Whiskey Lake“). The flagship integrates the i7-8665UE Intel® Core™ with 8MB L2 cache. Additionally, the family includes variants with quad-core i5-8365UE Intel® Core™ with 8MB or dual-core i3-8145UE Intel® Core™ with 4MB. The cost-optimized module integrates the 4305UE Intel® Celeron™ with two cores and 2MB. The integrated powerful Intel® UHD 610/620 graphics controller offers innovative 3D acceleration, video decoding and encoding functions and supports the simultaneous operation of up to three independent 4K displays.
4GB to 16GB DDR4-2400 DRAM memory can be inserted into the MSC C6C-WLU modules via two SO-DIMM slots. To protect against unauthorized access, the boards are equipped with a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) compliant to the requirements of the Trusted Computing Group (TCG).
The broad interface offering includes two DisplayPort/HDMI/DVI interfaces, an Embedded DisplayPort /LVDS port, four USB 3.1/2.0 and USB 2.0 ports each, eight PCI Express™ x1 lanes, and 2 x SATA 6 Gb/s.
The space-saving processor modules in the Compact form factor of 95 x 95mm are specified for operation temperatures ranging from 0°C to +60°C.
For rapid prototyping of the modules, Avnet Integrated offers a compatible carrier board and a complete starter kit.
