Sweden extends nationwide usage of Rohde & Schwarz communications solutions
Latest R&S Series5200 ATC radios and R&S AVQA advanced voice quality assurance system from Rohde & Schwarz will continue to provide Sweden with reliable communications and the highest level of security.
Geneva/Munich, March 8, 2023 – Rohde & Schwarz has been awarded an additional order from the Swedish Civil Aviation Authority (LFV) for radios and communications equipment to be deployed nationwide. The scope includes the introduction of the most innovative air traffic control (ATC) radio available, the R&S Series5200; the R&S AVQA advanced voice quality assurance system; the upgrade of already installed radios with the latest software; and the selection and expanded use of the R&S RCMS II remote control and monitoring system. These solutions are all part of CERTIUM, an advanced ATC communications suite.
R&S Series5200 represents the next generation of VHF and UHF radios for ATC communications, increasing system security thanks to its new security-by-design architecture. This makes the radio future-proof. Subsequent system expansions will not require additional hardware thanks to the software defined radio concept. R&S AVQA provides air traffic service providers (ANSP) with a unique non-intrusive IP and radio frequency (RF) monitoring and analytics tool that monitors voice quality over IP networks, to ensure uninterrupted communications and increases the visibility of network performance to ensure seamless operation.
“We are very pleased with our longstanding, and mutually beneficial relationship with LFV,” says Lars Idmark, Sales Manager ATC, Rohde & Schwarz. With the implementation of the latest software release, all existing radios are now ED137-C compliant and can perform enhanced remote monitoring. LFV’s focus on radio network robustness let it to choose the latest R&S RCMS II and R&S AVQA monitoring applications to enable continuous nationwide management and Radio Signal Strength Information (RSSI) monitoring of all operational radios.
“This order is a visible commitment by LFV to strengthen and modernize the national ATC radio network, and the mutual exchange on expertise and future expectations has been invaluable for developing new capabilities. One example is the new operational RSSI monitoring” Marius Münstermann, Vice President Market Segment ATC at Rohde & Schwarz, explains. “As a trusted partner, Rohde & Schwarz supports customers by offering expertise and advice in all phases of the project lifecycles – from system engineering to project implementation and aftersales service.
